Forty years of grown men crying

I can vividly remember watching it, along with half of America, though I was only seven years old at the time. Having grown up a Chicago Bears fan, Brian’s Song held an even greater fascination for me than just the great story. I also enjoyed seeing the portrayals of George Halas, Dick Butkus, Abe Gibron, and all of the old-time Bears I’d been idolizing in books. Forty years ago tonight, it aired for the first time on television. Here is a great article about the history behind its making and the impact the movie has had on American culture.
