Common myths about Little League baseball playing rules

There are quite a few of these and we’ll bring more to you as we get nearer to Opening Days around the country. Here is the first one:

The ball is dead on a foul tip.

Reality:The ball is NOT dead on a foul tip. Rule 2.00 FOUL TIP explicitly says that a foul tip is a live ball.

Much of the confusion surrounding this probably comes from a misunderstanding of what a foul tip actually is:

A FOUL TIP is a batted ball that goes sharp and direct from the bat to the catcher’s hands and is legally caught. It is not a foul tip unless caught and any foul tip that is caught is a strike, and the ball is in play. It is not a catch if it is a rebound, unless the ball has first touched the catcher’s glove or hand. A foul tip can only be caught by the catcher.

Amazing last-second shot

Perfect ending to a rec basketball game!

It’s a Miracle (League)

The Miracle League in San Diego is a wonderful example of how people who care can touch the lives of others through sports. The league allows youngsters who face physical or mental challenges the opportunity to play baseball in a fun, family environment. Take a look at the website, and click on the Meet Our Family link to view some videos guaranteed to make you want to sign up to volunteer. Every town should have something like the Miracle League. If you know of other examples we can highlight, send an email to info@coachdeck.com.
